Coming up on 1 year since my 2022 breast cancer diagnosis....

It's been a journey! Ups and downs for sure...🎢

Friends, family and prayer got me through treatment. 💗

Thankful to be on this side of things and ready for what's next. 💪🏻

I'll be sharing posts on all the things I've learned about how to best support your body through breast cancer treatment.

And how to reduce reoccurence.

Stay tuned!

While many studies look at temporary boosts to the immune system immediately after exercise, this study, published in the journal AJP-Cell, found these changes occurred even a week later, suggesting that the changes were long term.

🔥For me this month it’s all about getting rid of things standing in the way of me and my goals.

Back to school is always a hectic time – new routines, less time for meal prep, more demands on my schedule, more decisions to be made causing “decision fatigue”...

So I put my focus on determining what I *could* control, what I *couldn’t* and I decided to let some things go.

I’m a recovering perfectionist (anyone else? ✋) so I’ve gotten better about trying to do “all the things” and instead focus on setting up my schedule so I don’t take on too much.

Some days are hit or miss but *most* of the time, I’m hitting the mark.

This past week, before I stopped myself and said “Caitlin – you need to S-L-O-W D-O-W-N”, I noticed I was feeling pretty stressed – tighter neck and shoulder muscles, my digestion was off, sleep wasn’t as restful, my breathing was more shallow (less deep, diaphragmatic breathing).

So I took steps to put myself more into parasympathetic “relaxed” state and less in sympathetic “flight/fight/freeze” state.

My goal is to be as present as possible. Becoming more present was life-changing for me – it was a 180 degree shift to become more aware in my own life.

I had spent most of my teens and 20s always worried about one thing or another, regretting things from the past, or feeling “less than” others.

Once I discovered how I have to be intentional about being fully present in my life, things shifted and I felt lighter.

Life seemed to “get easier.” I felt “less stuck.” I realized I’m just as worthy as the next person.

As a mom and wife, I know the importance of putting on my oxygen mask first – otherwise I have less energy to give and I burn out fast.

Right now, I’m doubling down on doing things consistently that help me feel my best. Like my daily walk, eating nourishing meals, getting to bed on time, and petting my cat🐈 (LOL).

When I start to feel stressed or overwhelmed, I stop, take some D-E-E-P breaths, become aware of where I am, and repeat silently to myself “Breathe… breathe… breathe…”
